This week, I had the opportunity to go to PRSSA Icon. For those who don’t know, it is the Public Relations Students Society of America. This is a conference where Public Relations students and professionals come together to network and learn. At first, I was nervous about going to the conference because I felt imposter syndrome. I didn’t think that I belonged there. However, I am so grateful that I went because it changed my perspective on Public Relations so much!

Public Relations and communication is in every career! How incredible is that! This conference really sealed my decision in choosing this path. Before, I was nervouse about whether or not I made the right choice when it comes to degrees. However, from the conference, I learned that communications is in everything. Not only is it in everything, but it is so important and crucial to all businesses.

I had the opportunity to talk to people in all industries, and every single one told me about how important it is to make sure that you have a communications team. They allow you to build those relationships with your key publics. This allows every aspect of the business to be successful! How cool is that!

Another thing that I learned from this conference was the importance of networking. In one of my sessions, Diane Vara stated “Your network is your net worth.” This really changed my thoughts on networking. I am someone who is an introvert, and so the thought of talking to new people scares me. However, I took that leap of faith in networking, and I was able to meet so many amazing people. This helped me remember one of the reasons that I chose communications: I love connecting with people!

Overall, this conference was a wonderful experience, and I am so glad that I got the privelege to attend. If you ever have the chance to go, I would highly recommend it.
